Our vision for our wedding is simple and rustic with an emphasis on natural beauty and sustainability. Before we even began the planning process, we knew weddings were costly both on the celebrants' wallets and on the environment. Think of all the paper that goes to waste because of weddings: invitations, menus, place cards, programs, and the list goes on.
We decided early on that we wanted to create as little impact on the earth as possible for our special day. That is one of the reasons we chose Zukas! Did you know they grow many of their own vegetables on site? And anything that isn't grown on site is grown by local farmers. And (my favorite part) Zukas donates any leftover food to food pantries or needy families in the area. We loved the green tradition Zukas exemplified and we wanted to continue with the theme of sustainability for our wedding. That's why you'll see many recycled items throughout the evening as well as minimal paper products. We will be providing a shuttle from the hotel to the venue to help reduce the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere (and so you don't have to worry about driving back after a night of partying). You will see many antique, reused, recycled, and handmade items in both our fashion and decoration choices throughout the celebration. Invitations are going to be simple with minimal paper usage, and of course will be printed on 100% recycled paper.
Another reason we chose Zukas was for its natural beauty. The property sits on top of a hill surrounded by nothing but woods and farms. It is absolutely breathtaking on its own and requires little to no extra decoration, saving waste on extra decorations or costly flowers. We will include many wildflowers in our displays and our overall style will be focused around natural beauty. We hope that you can share with us our vision for a greener and brighter future on our wedding day.
